With cold weather well underway in Colorado, it is important that drivers accommodate for road conditions. Icy conditions can easily cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles, and if that happens, the outcomes can be catastrophic. Unfortunately, such accidents can quickly prove fatal.

It was recently reported that a single-vehicle accident claimed the life of one person. Apparently, a 48-year-old man and a 47-year-old man were in the vehicle when the driver lost control on the icy road. The vehicle rotated and left the roadway before overturning. Both individuals in the vehicle were ejected. It was noted that neither man was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.

The crash resulted in the older man suffered fatal injuries, and the younger man suffered serious injuries. Because both individuals were thrown from the vehicle, officers were not sure which man was driving at the time of the crash. It did not appear that drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident, but authorities were continuing to investigate and requested that any witnesses come forward with information.

As this incident shows, single-vehicle accidents can prove fatal just as easily as crashes with multiple vehicles. If the surviving man is determined to be the driver of the vehicle, the family of the man killed in this incident may have reason to file a wrongful death claim against him. Such a claim could allow them to pursue compensation for difficulties resulting from their loss, including funeral costs and other damages. Gaining information on taking such action in Colorado may be useful.
