Though National Distracted Driving Awareness Month is coming to a close, it is important to understand the dangers of distracted driving all year. Numerous car accidents take place because drivers are letting themselves get distracted by various outside factors. While some people may not think that sending a quick text is a big deal, it can become extremely significant when momentary distractions cause fatal accidents.

During this awareness month, several statistics regarding distracted driving were reviewed. In Colorado alone, an average of 43 car accidents take place each day due to distracted driving. Throughout 2018, over 15,600 collisions occurred in the state due to distraction, and of those, 53 had fatal outcomes. Unfortunately, because an estimated 660,000 drivers across America use their phones while behind the wheel, the likelihood of serious or fatal accidents remains high.

Drivers can take precautions to lessen their chances of becoming distracted and causing an accident. A significant step is to put cellphones away while driving. Even taking one's eyes off the road for a few seconds is enough time to cross a substantial distance in a vehicle and more than enough time to cause an accident.

If Colorado families have been affected by fatal accidents caused by distracted drivers, they may want to explore their legal options. These incidents can cause extreme disruptions in individuals' lives, including both emotionally and financially. Interested parties may want to gain information on wrongful death claims to determine whether this option could suit their circumstances and allow them to pursue compensation from drivers considered at fault for these incidents.
